BJD Kantabanji MLA Mohammad Ayub Khan on Sunday put all the blame
on the district administration for backwardness of his constituency area and
denied an allegation that he has encroached patches of tribal land.
“The Kantabanji Assembly constituency is a vast area. The district
administration has not been able to reach the people. Panchayat-level review
meetings held by the district Collector has yielded no result. The constituency
area is still backward because of previous elected representative,” Khan said.
He suggested that Kantabanji be declared as a district for its
development. There should be around 60 districts in Odisha so that speedy
development can be achieved, opined Khan.
Khan said he is unable to visit all the villages of his
constituency for its vastness.
When asked to comment on increasing reports of farmer suicides in
the constituency, Khan parried the question, saying truth would come out after
inquiry.
Similarly, the MLA denied the charge that he along with three
others has encroached patches of tribal land while responding to a related
question. He said he had purchased ‘disputed’ land from one Chand Bibi and
Abdul Mstri way back in 1978.
Notably, a petition has been filed at the Sub Collector that Khan
has illegally kept some tribal land in his possession.
