SAVE The Mahul Tree

Nature has given us many plants/trees which provides us multifarious benefit.All the  parts of tree, starting from leaves,flowers, fruit ,and other parts, provides a lot of benefits to people  either by ensuring food security during  the lean period of the year, through its flower or meeting the fuel wood need even from its dead parts not to speak of its body and ensuring the nutrition security through its fruit,besides checking soil erosion through its deep root inside the soil and maintain ecological balance. 

The Mahul trees   is one of such trees of nature ,which is a  robust one and stands tall and whose all parts are useful and beneficial for human being, 

This trees are  usually found  in the paddy field and forest of WesternOdisha and  inBastar area ofChhatisgarh/Madhya Pradesh.

Mahua flower is a nature's gift which after ripening falls on the ground naturally and millions of people,especially poor people living in remote and backward villagemanages their livelihood for nearly four  months. by collecting and selling it.

Its fruit,locally called   TOL  is also nutritious and consumed by people and provides edible oil to people.

Asingle Mahul tree provides its  flowers ,fruit and other benefit to the people for around40 years naturally.

According to a    saying goes in the rural area  that  the more number ofMahul trees in one's  Khet(field ) the more rich person(the owner of   he is , because the Mahul trees would ensure your livelihood by providing its flower (Mahua Flower ,Locally called Mahul ) its fruit(Tol),besides timber/fuel wood, when required and checking  soil erosion of your field and maintaining  ecological balance.

However thanks to the rising population development process and activities  like construction of roads,dams,mining and other activities the number of Mahul trees are declining.

Rural pepole worriedly noticed  that over the years the total quantityofMahuaflower fall is declining.Since this is a natural process nobody has power to control/check it. Rural people are attributing it to Climate Change in their own(rustic way) 

To ensure multifarious benefits to poor people to maintain ecological balance  and to preserve one of the nature's gift to people of this particular area,    we( all the people) should strive to  check further decline in number ofMahul trees in our area and preserve it  for the betterment of mankind.
