Even as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his Uttar
Pradesh counterpart Akhilesh Yadav told mediapersons that they discussed issues
of mutual interest, speculations are high that a new political equation might
have been the subject of their talks held here on Thursday evening.
Yadav, who reached here on Thursday afternoon on a
two-day Odisha visit, shortly later called on Patnaik at the Secretariat. The
meeting lasted for about 20 minutes.
After the meeting, both Yadav and Patnaik together
came out to the corridor and responded to media queries. “I discussed about all
the pro-people schemes like housing, health and Mamata programmes going on in
Odisha. I got an opportunity to learn a lot from an experienced Chief Minister
like Patnaik,” Yadav said.
Similarly, Patnaik said, “We had discussions about
matters of mutual interest. I inquired about development of the Lucknow Express
Highway and other schemes of Uttar Pradesh.”
In political circles, it is being discussed that
Yadav might have come with a proposal to invite the BJD to join hands with the
Lalu-Nitish-Mulayam group to make way for formation of a third front in the
country next to the Congress-led UPA and the BJP-led NDA.
Earlier in the afternoon, a large number of
Samajwadi Party leaders and workers led by State president Rabi Behera welcomed
Yadav on his reaching at the Biju Patnaik International Airport.
After refreshment at the Hotel Trident Hilton,
Yadav visited Patnaik. Then he went to Puri to have Darshan of Lord Jagannath.
Yadav is scheduled to address the 25,000 students at the Kalinga Institute of
Social Science (KISS) here on Friday.c
